Germany guide
Corporate Social Responsibility in Germany
German CSR (often labelled ESG in buyer packs) is shaped by supply-chain due diligence rules that hit large companies first, then their suppliers. This guide covers what that means for documentation, what the data shows, and how to write a policy that survives vendor review.

Supply-chain duties cascade to German suppliers
Germany's supply-chain due diligence framework (Lieferkettensorgfaltspflichtengesetz) obliges in-scope companies to manage human rights and environment risks in their chains. Even if you are not the obliged party, you may receive questionnaires, codes of conduct and document requests. A short CSR/ESG policy is often the first upload.

What German companies disclose
Open company data for Germany clears sample thresholds for Scope 1 and Scope 2.
- Scope 1 emissions (median)
- 172,787 t CO2e2024
- Scope 2 emissions (median)
- 105,661 t CO2e2024
Basis: Median of latest value per company; Scope 1 n=45, Scope 2 n=40
How to read those disclosure figures
Samples skew to larger reporters. Use them as context for why emissions questions appear, not as targets to invent for a small supplier.
