CSR vs CSI in South African practice

CSR is the broader responsibility framing (environment, people, ethics, community). CSI usually points at social investment projects: education, health, enterprise development, community infrastructure. Many South African questionnaires use the words interchangeably. Answer with both: how you operate, and what you invest in locally.

Is CSI or CSR mandatory in South Africa?

There is no single SME-wide CSR Act that forces every small business to publish a statement. Related duties and expectations appear in B-BBEE practice, sector charters, mining and licensing contexts, and large-buyer procurement.
